Jane Downey

 

Jane Downey started her dance career at the age of 3 at Linda Kaye Academy of Dance in St. Louis, MO. At the age of 13, she began training under Gerri Stretz and Yvonne Meyer at the Professional Dance Center. She became a member of Rhythm Revue U.S.A. performing at national competitions, televised variety shows, and Disney World. In addition, she was a Cerre Player at Christian Brothers College, choreographing and performing musical theatre for 4 years.

Jane attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a minor in both Business and Biology. During her college career, she was Dance Director for Chi Omega and won choreography awards for 3 consecutive years.

After graduation, Jane moved to San Diego, CA to continue studying, teaching, and performing dance. She became a scholarship student at the Academy of Performing Arts, carrying on her practice in tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, and hip-hop. Jane is currently a member of San Diego’s leading jazz company, Unity Dance Ensemble, under the direction of Tessandra Chavez and Theo Ivey.
