Nancy  McCaleb



NANCY McCALEB - Artistic Director of McCaleb Dance, hails from New Orleans. Her early training was with Betty Jones and other veterans of the Jose Limon Company. She holds an interdisciplinary Master's Degree in dance, music, and the visual arts, and her work often reflects the alchemy of crossing borders, mixing genres, blending cultures, and making connections between disparate elements. She has created thirty-nine dances and composed ten sound scores for the company since 1985.

Her dances have been performed throughout the West, Europe, Mexico, and New York City. McCaleb is the recipient of a choreographic fellowship and several project grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, Locals Program.

Five of her dances, videotaped as part of her company's collaboration with KPBS-TV, won five National Broadcasting awards including the coveted Cine Golden Eagle. Her dance video Swamp was awarded an "Emmy" by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Southwest Division. McCaleb is past President of the San Diego Area Dance Alliance and served three terms on the California Arts Council Dance Panel and on its Touring Panel.
