Jean  Isaacs

Jean Isaacs served as an Artistic Director of 3's Company and then Isaacs/McCaleb & Dancers since 1974. Most recently, she created her new company SAN DIEGO DANCE THEATER. She has choreographed over forty dances. Raised in Mansfield, Massachusetts, she was introduced to modern dance while a student at Wheaton College, and then trained in Graham, Horton, and Cunningham techniques, performing with the Boston Dance Circle. In 1969 she moved to San Diego and developed a technique which has nourished countless numbers of California dancers.

As a leading pioneer of modern dance in San Diego, she was one of the founders of the San Diego Area Dance Alliance. Her The Mist Leaves No Scar has been performed in five countries and eleven states. She has choreographed for the La Jolla Playhouse, the San Diego Repertory Theatre, Starlight musicals, and the Southeast Community Theatre. She has served on the California Arts Council Dance, Artist-in-Residency, Touring, and Challenge Panels. In 1991, she received a California Arts Council Choreographic Fellowship. In 1992, the San Diego Area Dance Alliance awarded her the first annual "Tommy" Award for service to the San Diego dance community. Jean teaches at UCSD for the new dance major in the Department of Theatre, and is known throughout Europe and Latin America as an extraordinary dance educator.
